This is intended only as a beginning point. The amount of information and resources on this topic is truly amazing, so please do your own search and let me know about any resources you find particularly useful.

Windows Live version of Moviemaker step by step While I prefer using Moviemaker 6, some people like the striped down Windows Live version of Moviemaker that comes with Windows 7 because it is simpler (but has fewer features and less flexibility). This document includes step by step instructions to the Windows Live version of Moviemaker that your students can use as a resource.

Software & On-line Tools

Windows Live Moviemaker for Vista or Windows 7. This version does not have a feature for narration!

Windows Movie Maker 6.0 (works on Vista & 7) This is not a Microsoft site, but rather a modified version of Moviemaker that works on Windows 7.

Windows Movie Maker 2.6 (works on Vista & 7) This is a Microsoft site, but this is an older version

Photo Story 3

Frames
This software can be used for video but also allows students to create animation and even "green screen" effects. There is a fee for the software, but students can download a 30-day free trial version.

Any Video Converter This is a free software program you can use to convert different video and audio file types, or download video from You Tube.

Voicethread  According to their web site "Voicethread is a powerful new way to talk about and share your images, documents, and videos." It is an amazing tool! 
 
Screencasting  Capture what's on your computer screen into a video by using tools such as JingScreentoaster, or Screencast-o-matic

Mixbook 
This tool creates an online Photo Album, but its advantage is that it allows multiple students to collaborate easily (even from home). 

Animoto  According to their web site "We make killer video from your images automatically."

Audacity- a free sound editing program

Pics4Learning.com Public domain images

Morguefile more public domain images that can be used without copywrite infringement
 
Creative Commons   is a non-profit organization where you can get images, video & more that you can use and even manipulate without violating copyright protections.

Cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/StoryTools  This page has a VERY EXTENSIVE list of links to over 50 storytelling tools available on the internet

prezi.com/  This site can be used for creating Flash presentations that are great for things that are interrelated and/or on a time line.
 
makebeliefscomix.com  Make your own comic strip online. No artistic talent needed. It's fun!
